Dwyer House of Hitting – Philosophy

The first step we like to teach in the hitting process is the mechanics of the swing.

Jim developed his approach to teaching hitting during his 47 years of pro ball. After 20 years of facing professional pitchers, he spent another 27 years teaching guys mechanics to hold up against professional pitching to get them to the majors.

We understand there are different ways to teach the swing, but this is what he found works best. He developed a very simple system for hitters to understand how to swing the bat. If kids can understand the swing, then they can effectively practice at home.

This is the key to getting better.

The next step is approach.

The at bat is a dynamic situation. The count and previous pitches thrown dictate our train of thought. We will teach the different mindsets of hitting with offensive, neutral, and defensive approaches.

Without a good approach, proper mechanics can only do so much.

Too often young hitters are not taught approach and can’t understand why pitchers are consistently getting them out. Just like a hitter can have holes in his/her swing, they can also have holes in their approach.

Jim and Rhett have written and will continue to write numerous articles on mental approaches and proper training routines.

Our third step is vision training.

With our affiliate, Eyeperformance.net, we offer a great program to better your son’s/daughter’s vision. Your eyesight is everything as a hitter.

Your brain has to recognize location and pitch type before we decide to swing. Your swing is just a calculated guess off what your eyes are seeing and your brain is telling you to do. The quicker we can recognize the pitch, the better hitter we will become.
